There are many herbs out there that can help make pregnancy and childbirth go a little smoother, there are herbs that should only be taken during the last few weeks of your pregnancy and herbs that should not be taken at all during pregnancy. Here’s a list of herbs that should be completely avoided during pregnancy:

Aloe Vera (Alright to use externally, not internally)
Angelica
Black Cohosh
Blue Vervain
Calendula
Cat’s Claw
Comfrey
Clenadie
Cottonwood Bark
Devil’s Claw
Dong Quai
Ephedra
Feverfew
Garlic (should be avoided while breastfeeding)
Goldenseal
Gotu Kola
Juniper Berries
Kava Kava
Myrrh
Oregon Grape
Parsley (as an oil or juice)
Passion Flower
Pennyroyal
Rue
Senna
Tansy

The following herbs can be used during the third trimester (usually last 4 weeks) which can aid in a smooth childbirth.

Blessed Thistle
Blue Cohosh
Burdock
False Unicorn
Ginger helps soothe an uneasy stomach
Nettle
Red Raspberry makes contractions more effective & aids in milk production one cup of tea can be consumed during 1st and 2nd trimester, one ounce can be consumed during final trimester.
Saffron helps with stomach pain after childbirth
Sheppard’s Purse makes contractions more effective
St. John’s Wort makes contractions more effective
